In June 2016 Bryan Adams and I were 6 months into writing songs for "Pretty Woman The Musical". What we didn't know was, by the time we finished it would be a three-year project (can you say "burned out").

On this particular day the director had asked us to write a song for the scene where Mr. Morse dances with Vivian at the Voltaire restaurant.  

I'd been in New York since the first of June for rehearsals and production meetings. Bryan arrived on the 12th.

For reasons I can't recall we decided to write something in a Rockabilly style.  We recorded a track and a rough vocal in the little "studio" I'd set up in my room at the AKA Hotel. Then we spent the next few days writing and re-writing the lyrics, something that would not only served the story and fit the script, but would meet with the director's laser-focused approval. Once completed, the song was choreographed, rehearsed by the cast and orchestra and added to the stage production.  

Mission accomplished ... or so we thought.

A week later the director changed his mind. He tossed out the song and asked us write something with a different lyric in a completely musical different style.  And that's pretty much how it went for the next three years.

Welcome to Broadway. Ouch!

The good news is, not every rejected song went to waste. Bryan recorded "I've Been Lookin' For You" for his So Happy It Hurts album.
