Comments:
In June 2016 Bryan Adams and I were 6 months into writing songs for "Pretty Woman: The Musical". It was a three year project by the time we were done (can you say "burned out?").

One day the director asked us to write a song for the scene where Mr. Morse dances with Vivian at the Voltaire restaurant. For reasons I can't recall we decided on a Rockabilly style, similar to the song "You Belong To Me" from Bryan's 2015 "Get Up" album.

We recorded a track and a rough vocal on the portable "recording studio" I'd set up in my room at the AKA Hotel on 44th Street in New York. Then we spent the next day or two writing and re-writing the lyrics, ensuring that each line - each word - served the story (as lyrics must do in a "Broadway"production).

After the song was completed and approved by the director it was choreographed, rehearsed by the cast and orchestra, and added to the stage production.

Mission accomplished ... or so we thought.

A week later the director changed his mind. He tossed out the song and asked us to write a new one in a completely different style. And that's how things went for the next 2-1/2 years (did I mention "burned out"?).

The good news is, not every rejected "Pretty Woman" song went to waste.

In 2021 Bryan recorded "I've Been Lookin' For You" for his So Happy It Hurts album.
Lyrics: I know it might sound crazy
Ever since I was a baby
I've been lookin’ for you

Sometimes I got to wonder
What rock have I been under
I've been lookin’ for you

One day you wake up and it's too late
Y’know if I had my way
I'd never wanna let you go

You make it seem so easy
You made my day believe me
I've been lookin’ for you

I might be a little older
C’mon lean on my shoulder
I've been lookin’ for you

One day you wake up and it’s all changed
Y’know if I had my way
I'd never wanna let you go

It's true I hardly know ya
I gotta a few moves I could show ya
I've been lookin’ for you

I know it might sound crazy
Ever since I was a baby
I've been lookin’ for you

Sometimes I got to wonder
What rock have I been under

I've been lookin’
I’ve been lookin’
I've been lookin’ for you
