I didn't contribute a great deal to this song ...
mainly the chord progression that supports the bridge and the guitar
solo. Still, I enjoyed the
time I spent with Default, and I came away with a great deal of respect
for the band's work ethic, their camaraderie, and their dedication to
making music.
As a member of the board of directors of SOCAN (Society of Composers,
Authors and Publishers of Canada), one of my more pleasurable duties
is presenting awards to Canadian songwriters like Nickelback,
Avril Lavigne, Swollen Members and others.
I presented a "SOCAN Number One Award" to Default in 2002.
A small reception followed
the presentation, and at one point someone suggested we try
writing together. It finally happened in
February 2003.
Ironcially, a year later I was the recipient of my own "SOCAN Number One Award" for my contribution to "Taking My Life Away". |
