In
early 2002 I got a call from my old friend Sam Reid. Glass Tiger were
planning the release of a "20th Anniversary" DVD, and they were
hoping to include two new "bonus" tracks ... and might I be interested in co-writing the
new tracks with him and Alan Frew?
Of course I was interested! Since first hooking up with Glass Tiger
in 1985 I've remained close friends with Sam and Alan, and I thought it
would be a blast, almost 20 years later, to try and create new music that
could stand beside the old Tiger stalwarts, like "Someday", "Don't
Forget Me" and "Thin Red Line".
Schedules were coordinated,
and it was decided Sam and Alan would come to Vancouver for five or six
days in May 2002, returning in September for a second session.
In between reminiscing about old times and eating ourselves silly, we managed
to get two new tracks written and recorded: "Give It Away"
and "No Looking Back".
Originally the Vancouver recordings were intended as "demos",
with "real" recordings to be completed at a later date.
But upon further listening we decided that the temporary tracks were worthy
of official release.
With that in mind, Sam contacted Ed Thacker, the audio engineer who'd mixed
the first two Glass Tiger albums back in 1985 and 1987. Ed flew up
from Los Angeles and mixed the two new tracks at my home studio, with Paul
Silveira assisting and Sam and I overseeing the production. |
