"Heat
Of The Night" was partly inspired by the film noir classic
"The Third Man", starring the brilliant actor-director Orson
Welles. The darkness of the lyric was further influenced by a trip Bryan
and I took to Berlin in March 1986, before the wall came down. "Heat of the Night" reached #6 on the Billboard "Hot 100" singles chart in May 1987, the only single from Bryan's "Into The Fire" album to achieve chart success. It also has the distinction of being the first commercially-released cassette single in the U.S. One regret on this track ... I'd love to have heard backing vocals from Lisa Dal Bello, Sharon Lee Williams and Colina Phillips. Adams delivers a superb vocal, not to mention his lead guitar work (a rare occurrence, as he usually leaves the solo work to Keith Scott). The Hammond organ was played by our dear friend Robbie King. Sadly, Robbie was claimed by cancer in November 2003. |

Robbie was a legend in the music community. Originally signed to Motown
Records as a member of "Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers", in
the mid-1960's Robbie toured extensively with the Supremes and other
Motown artists. He was a sweet, generous man with an unparalleled passion
for music. He was a wonderful piano player and an absolute master on the Hammond organ. Click on the television to see a rare interview with Robbie King. |

Lyrics: |
Where one man's nightmare is another man's dream Pull the covers up high and pray for the mornin' light Cuz you're livin' alone In the heat of the night Met a man with a message from the other side Couldn't take the pressure - had to leave it behind He said it's up to you You can run or you can fight - (ya that's right) Better leave it alone In the heat of the night In the heat of the night they'll be comin' around They'll be lookin' for answers they'll be chasin' you down In the heat of the night (Where you gonna hide when it all comes down) (Don't look back don't ever turn around) Had to pay the piper to call the tune Said he'd be back someday - said he'd be back real soon Pull the shades down low - you'll know when the time is right When you're lyin' alone in the heat of the night In the heat of the night they'll be comin' around They'll be lookin' for answers they'll be chasin' you down In the heat of the night (Where you gonna hide when it all comes down) (Don't look back don't ever turn around) |
