Amelia / original demo - 1975

This first draft has little resemblance to the final recorded version of "Amelia". The chorus is more-or-less the same, but the verse has a completely different lyric and melody.  I'm playing all the instruments, and I provided the painfully soporific vocal.

The slide guitar, and the overall tenor of the track, is very much inspired by Badfinger, particularly their song "No Matter What" (released in 1970 on Apple Records and produced by Beatle roadie Mal Evans).

Thanks to Mike Ireland for rescuing the audio on these old demo recordings.
Additional Audio 2:
Amelia / slow tempo with Ron's vocal - 1976?

By the second draft the lyric has been finalized, and Ron Tabak is singing lead vocal on this demo.  I'm quite certain I'm playing all the other instruments, although it sounds like Lindsay is contributing lead guitar (and possibly rhythm?).
Additional Audio 3:
Amelia / fast tempo with Ron's vocal - 1976?

This third demo is considerably faster than the first two ... in fact it's even faster than Prism's final recorded version.  I'm guessing it was recorded at Psi-Chord studios on 3rd Avenue in Vancouver, and likely includes Lindsay on guitar, myself on drums and Sunshyne member Richard Christie on bass. Ron Tabak is singing.
Comments:
My "studio", summer 1975, including a harmonium I'd borrowed from Sunshyne guitarist David Sinclair.  Most of Prism's debut album was written and demo'd here >
"Amelia" was written and demo'd during the summer of 1975 in my home studio, which consisted of a TEAC reel-to-reel 4-track recorder, one microphone, and a low-budget, 6-channel mixer ... all of it stacked on brick-and-plank shelves in the corner of my living room.

When my friend Bruce Fairbairn approached me that summer looking for songs for Prism, "Amelia" is one of the tracks I played for him.

"Amelia" was recorded by Prism at Mushroom Studios in 1975 or '76, and appeared on their debut album (released in 1977 on GRT Records in Canada and on Scotty Brothers Records in the US).
Lyrics: I heard from a friend you were leavin’
But I’ll only believe it from you
How could you possibly do this to me
After all of the things we’ve been through?

I’m tryin’ to keep it together
But I’m gettin’ so dazed and confused
One day you say you don’t need me baby
And the next day you tell me you do

Ahh - what can I do?

Amelia, can’t feel ya
You’re slippin’ away
Can’t go on without you
I’m goin’ insane

The rumour is out I’m goin’ crazy
But I’m tired of hearin’ those lies
I’ve been tryin’ for days just to find you baby
‘Cause there’s somethin’ I just realized

Amelia, can’t feel ya
You’re slippin’ away
Can’t go on without you
I’m goin’ insane

Amelia, can’t feel ya
You’re slippin’ away
Can’t go on without you
I’m goin’ insane

Amelia, can’t feel ya
You’re slippin’ away
Can’t go on without you
I’m goin’ insane

Amelia, can’t feel ya
You’re slippin’ away
Can’t go on without you
I’m goin’ insane
