This
is a first draft demo of the chorus only ("I can see ...") -- possibly
recorded in 1973 or '74 ... I don't remember. However, I do remember
that it was written in 1972, on a Kibbutz in northern Israel. |

Vallance - piano, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, vocal / David Sinclair -
electric guitars. The final "home demo" prior to the Prism studio session. At this point the arrangement is finalized ... not much changed from here on. |

Comments: | "Julie"
was liberally inspired by the Elton John song "I've Seen The Saucers"
(from the "Caribou" album). Elton's song starts with the lyric:
"Truly, wouldn't it be something". My song starts with "Julie, wouldn't it be nice", with the melody for Truly and Julie being
identical (the melodic similarity ends there). The tom-toms leading into the chorus were borrowed from "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (Beatles); the guitar "stabs" in the verse were lifted from "Oh Darlin'"(Beatles); and the end of the song sounds an awful lot like "Shaft" (Isaac Hayes). As John Lennon once said, "I never wrote a song that I didn't steal from somewhere". Mea culpa. |

Lyrics: | Julie, it
would be so nice If you’d just tell me what’s goin’ on It’s a week since I’ve seen you And I’d really and truly like to know You put me through this more than once or twice ‘Cause I thought I was the only one Julie, do you think it’s ‘bout time for me to go? I can see by the look that’s in your eyes Your surprise when I say the things I do Is it true that you think I’m tellin’ lies? I can see Julie, would it be hard Just to be the way we used to be? Ooo - I’m feelin’ stranded And it’s gettin’ so hard for me to see Oh you left me standin’ with my heart on sleeve And I just can;t hide the way I feel Julie, do you think it’s ‘bout time for me to leave? I can see by the look that’s in your eyes Your surprise when I say the things I do Is it true that you think I’m tellin’ lies? I can see I can see by the look that’s in your eyes Your surprise when I say the things I do Is it true that you think I’m tellin’ lies? I can see |
