My connection to Rick Springfield dates back to 1982, when we co-wrote the song Kristina ... without actually meeting. Kristina began life as another song altogether, titled Jamaica. Rick liked the melody, but didn't care for the lyrics, so he wrote new words and changed the title. I was thrilled to have a song on the album that followed Rick's huge hit, Jessie's Girl. In addition to being a musician, Rick is also a successful actor, best known for his role of Dr. Noah Drake on the television series General Hospital. In January 1990 Rick came to Vancouver to shoot a film. He called me out of the blue, suggesting we get together. Over the period of a week or two -- whenever Rick could get away from the film set -- we managed to complete three or four songs, including Stand Up For Love. I really like Rick. He's well-read, intelligent, funny, and a hugely talented singer, musician and songwriter. |
