Jim's grocery store, Vancouver  (about 1918)
Jim Young's grocery store stood on the north-west corner of 22nd Avenue and Slocan Street in the Vancouver neighbourhood then known as Cedar Cottage.  The Young family home was a few doors to the west, also on 22nd Avenue.  The photo shows Jim's niece Irene (born 1916) and his sister Ethel, who was managing the store in his absence.

Jim Young and friend
This photograph was likely taken in January or February 1918, just prior to Jim Young's departure by train for Halifax.  The location is Hastings Park in Vancouver (now the Pacific National Exhibition grounds).  During the war the park was used as a parade ground.  There is a note on the back of the photo, in Jim Young's hand:  "Florence.  Keep this for me".  There is no further information as to who this woman might be.
