This is one of my favourite photos of Bryan. I took it on the front porch of the house I was renting at 12th and Carnarvon in Vancouver, where we wrote all of our early songs. Bryan was 18 at the time, a year away from releasing his first album.

When I first met Bryan he was so broke I'd sometimes have to give him money to take the bus, or I'd drive him home myself. One night, after a long day of writing, I was driving Bryan back to his mom's place when we were hit by a car speeding through a red light. The other car collided with the front of my VW Rabbit, spinning us around a full turn

Every once in a while I have a great idea. Unfortunately this photo wasn't one of them!

For promotional purposes early in our songwriting career I thought it would be cool to have a photo with Bryan out front and myself as "the guy in the background". We never used the photo, and when I look at it now, I appear to be a midget! In fact, it reminds me of that joke about the 10-inch pianist.

Never mind.

The photo was taken by Bryan's friend Denise Grant in Vancouver's historic old train station, now the "SeaBus" terminal.
