Comments:
Below: writing with Daphne Rubin Vega and Pat MacDonald at Chateau de Marouatte, France, May 1997
I wrote with Daphne on two occasions:  the first time was at Miles Copeland's castle in France, in May 1997.  The second time was November 1997, in New York.

The New York visit wasn't very productive.  I had travelled 3,000 miles to write with Daphne, but she was preoccupied with rehearsals and auditions, and she was typically an hour or two late for our session each day. Essentially, it was a wasted trip.

Daphne Rubin-Vega was born in 1969 in Panama City.

In 1996 she had a #1 hit on the Club charts with the song "I Found It." In 2003 she had another chart-topper with a dance version of Elton John's "Rocket Man".

But her biggest success was in the Broadway musical "Rent", where she played the lead role of Mimi Marquez. Daphne didn't participate in the film version as she was pregnant at the time (the role went to Rosario Dawson).

Daphne has two Tony Award nominations to her credit ... for "Rent" and also for her performance in "Anna in the Tropics".
