Comments:
Originally called "The Irish Rovers", the group had a huge hit in the 1970's with "The Unicorn", a song in the style of "Puff The Magic Dragon" song that literally appealed to everyone from age 2 to 102.

Their manager, Les Weinstein, was a good friend of mine, and he asked if Bryan and I would write a song for their 1989 "Hardstuff" album, which of course we were pleased to do.

Adams and I did our best to write a sing-along "pub" anthem.
Lyrics: WHEN I WAS A LAD, WITH THE FRIENDS THAT I HAD
WE'D GO FOR A PINT EVERY EVENIN'
THOUGH ITS BEEN MANY YEARS, I STILL LOVE TO HEAR
THE SOUND OF THOSE HARMONIES WEAVIN'

WHEN WE'D ALL SING TOGETHER
MAY OUR HEARTS BE THERE WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU ROAM
YES WE'LL ALL SING TOGETHER
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME

WHEN I GO AWAY, WELL THERE'S NEVER A DAY
I DON'T THINK OF THOSE WAITIN' FOR US
CUZ YOU KNOW WHEN I'M BACK, WE'LL ALL RAISE A GLASS
AND WE'LL LIFT UP OUR VOICES IN CHORUS

THEN WE'LL ALL SING TOGETHER
AND OUR HEARTS WILL BE WITH YOU WHEVER YOU GO
AND WE'LL ALL SING TOGETHER
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME

THEN WE'LL ALL SING TOGETHER
MAY OUR HEARTS BE THERE WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU ROAM
YES WE'LL ALL SING TOGETHER
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME
'TIL ITS TIME TO GO HOME

(ALTERNATE 1ST VERSE)

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN
WELL ME AND MY FRIENDS
WE'D GO FOR A PINT EVERY EVENIN'
