In
1983, following the success of Bryan Adams' Cuts Like A Knife album,
Bryan and I were approached by Los Angeles film producer Aaron Russo
to write a song for the film "Teachers", starring Nick
Nolte and Judd Hirsch.
After reading
the script, Bryan and I wrote the song "Teacher Teacher" in
three or four hours, then spent a day or two recording the demo.
A few days later, with tape in hand we flew to Los Angeles to meet with Russo,
ostensibly
to
view
a "rough cut" of the film. Aaron wasn't expecting a song until after we'd
seen the film, but Adams and I presented him with our demo of "Teacher
Teacher" which he immediately slid into his cassette machine.
Russo loved the song, and asked if we could write one more. We sent him Edge
Of A Dream, a song that had been
written -- and rejected -- for "Saturday Night Fever II". Aaron loved
that song too!
During the next few months "Teacher Teacher" was recorded by .38 Special
and "Edge Of A Dream" was recorded by Joe Cocker. Both songs appeared
in the "Teachers" film and on the soundtrack album. |
