In January 2004 Hanna Pakarinen won the very first "Pop Idol, Finland" competition. As winnner, she was awarded a recording contract and 30,000 Euros ($40,000 US). During the semi-finals in Helsinki, the competitors were divided in five groups of six singers. Hanna was in the second group, and she was the last to sing. Her performance of "Heaven" earned her 80% of the votes that evening. On the December 18th "Pop Idol" broadcast, Hanna sang "Summer of '69". Two weeks later, on January 9th 2004, she won the competition, receiving 60% of the votes on the final broadcast. Hanna's debut album, including the single "Heaven", was released on June 9th 2004. The album achieved "platinum" status in Finland within a few days of its release. |
